Yes, we know there is a lot of sugar in soda, sports, and energy drinks. We know that it’s sure in a bunch of desserts and cereals. Did you know that sugar is lurking in places that you may have not expected it, like pasta sauces, salad dressings, canned soups, and yogurts? Sugar isn’t disclosed on the label currently but a new FDA requirement that takes place in 2018 will change all that! The new “Nutrition Facts” will include sugar in addition to calories, fat, and cholesterol…

Some Examples of Hidden Sugar…

Yogurt with Fruit, Syrup, or Toppings

Plain yogurt is usually fine but add some things and many yogurts have more sugar than a twinkie!

Pasta Sauce

Usually 3 teaspoons of sugar in every 4 oz. serving. No different than a Pop Tart. That’s not much sauce!

Fat Free Salad Dressing

Usually 2 teaspoons of sugar for each 2 tablespoon serving. Yikes! Do you use more than 2 tablespoons of dressing?

The Amount of Sugar is the Problem, Not Sugar Itself

Too much sugar in your body gives you an unhealthy triglyceride level in their bloodstream which can affect your cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease. It’s a major cause for obesity which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Excessive sugar also feeds the bacteria that cause tooth decay!
