Most dentists deal with Cavities, Enamel Erosion, and Gum Disease during most of their days but all three could be easily avoided…
Cavities are caused when plaque builds up on the surface of the tooth and begins to eat away the enamel on the tooth. The enamel protects your teeth from cavities. Without this protection, cavities are inevitable. The good news is that cavities can easily be avoided if you brush at least twice a day (preferably morning and before bed), floss once a day, and visit your dentist at least semi-annually.
Enamel on your teeth can be worn down when you consume too many acidic foods and drinks and by over-brushing (brushing too hard). Some signs of erosion include tooth sensitivity, discoloration, and if your teeth crack/chip easily. The best solution is to cut out high acidic foods and drinks. Drinking more water will increase the health of the enamel on your tooth. It is also best to brush with a soft-bristle toothbrush.
Gum disease is when the plaque buildup from your teeth begin to attack your gums. This is also known as periodontal disease, which is the beginning stage of gingivitis. This is also known as periodontal disease, of which the beginning stage is gingivitis. Without proper hygiene (brushing and flossing), this can progress to periodontitis which involves loss of both gum and bone support to the teeth. With continued disease progress, teeth can and will be lost.
